Parents, you’ve clearly got the hardest job known to man. Don’t worry. I’ve got you.
Whether your children are just starting school, are pre-teens or young adults, here are three resources that might be of help to you.
A Resource to Watch
In my opinion, Dr. Daniel Amen is one of the most relatable brain doctors around. His book, called Change Your Brain Change Your Life, illustrates how passionate he is about sharing his knowledge and helping people’s quality of life improve. Instead of purely focusing on neurology, he also focuses on the whole person, helping individuals and families get positive results.
If you are someone who doesn’t want to read long texts, don’t worry! He has got a number of videos on YouTube.
His videos share information about brain health, social media, diet and drugs, including how they affect children and young people’s brain development. I would recommend starting here: Dr. Daniel Amen on the #1 Foundation to Raising Mentally Strong Kids.
A Resource to Read
The Montessori Child is a book for parents with children of all ages. The book covers topics like brain development and its different stages, and guides parents through the idea of using Montessori ideas in their homes.
Very rarely can a parent relate to their children in every phase of their life. Let’s be real, some parents would love their child to stay in the cute toddler stage, and some can’t wait for them to become young adults. This book will help you to help your child, regardless of whether they are in a phase you can deal with easily or a difficult phase that truly exercises your patience.
A Resource to Listen to
For my podcast crew, I’ve got one for you too. I recently told one of the children in the group I teach about the times my mother sent me to the shop as a young adult. Of course, instead of getting a physical list, I would simply have to remember the items. (On some occasions, I did not remember everything.) However, simple memory activities like this don’t occur anymore as we have got the technology to do it for us.
Jim Kwik has got a solution. He is a memory expert who had a brain injury as a child. He used his struggles to help him learn new brain techniques, which he has been teaching for decades.
Jim’s podcast, called Kwik Brain with Jim Kwik, includes short episodes with techniques that are easy to implement in every household, helping individuals and parents ensure technology is a tool and not a crutch.
Parents, sometimes it feels like time is not on your side, but these three resources won’t take long to digest and will help you on your parental journey. Definitely, look here.
