Taking Root in Good Soil

To move, to transfer, to alter. Mind Shift is about doing all of these things. The book is centred around the topic of breaking down the internal limitations that gear us up for failure. As pretentious as it sounds, the content of the book genuinely helps the reader take root in good soil.

Reading books with abstract titles is not the type of thing that suits my personality type. But if you’ve kept up with my reviews, you would know I respect the content that Erwin Raphael McManus shares with the world. He’s unafraid to say things that people just dare to think which is very much needed in today’s world.

Strong Roots

Reading the book is like taking root in good soil which nourishes your soul and mind. It’s a book that reads like Erwin has decided to share the wisdom he has gained through life and through working in numerous arenas. As the deep connections between generations have been slightly severed over time and people no longer spend as much quality time with older loved ones, this book feels like a generational link sharing wisdom that many would have got from their aunties, uncles, and older family members.

Perfumed Ambition

The topic of ambition was one of my favourite topics discussed in the book. Erwin brought up the fact that it is often treated as a negative trait. As a society, we seem to value the people who give up their wealth, businesses, and more to serve the poor. This is of course noble, but the author argues that nobility can come in more than one form: through ambition. It was refreshing to read about ambition in this way. It’s okay to be ambitious. Our intention is what shows us whether our ambition is healthy or not.

Astute Preparation

As I scurried through the book, there was one chapter that made me halt. Erwin’s chapter about success was unexpectedly thought-provoking. In this chapter, the author discusses the weight of success and the pressure that arises when success has occurred in one’s life.  Aspirational people spend so much time working, dreaming, and striving for success, but we rarely spend time preparing ourselves for what success will be like.

This chapter alone made the book worth buying.  Without realising, it helped me reset myself as if I had been replanted.

An Enriched Mind

Buying this book was something I did just because I thought the author would provide me with an interesting outlook. In actuality, the book became more than I expected. Like going to therapy, it provokes the reader to move, to transfer, to alter their way of thinking. Mind Shift.
