I’m one of those people. The type who likes to make new year’s resolutions. (Don’t get me wrong, I make resolutions all year round.) But the resolutions at the beginning of the year feel different. It’s that feeling of starting a new cycle. Although when the clock strikes twelve nothing drastically changes physically, mentally a new step into a new year is taken.
Being an avid reader, I tend to use books to help me expand my understanding of the world and myself. However, instead of starting the year with yet another new self-help book or a book about business written by someone in the know, I’m going to do things slightly differently. Revision is the direction I’ve decided to go in.
One of the books I read in 2022, which gave me the most practical information, was written by Jim Kwik. The book is called Limitless. This book contains tips about memory, facts about the brain, and information about food consumption that can improve brain function. Revision is the direction. For me that means, simply revising the book.
I consume so much information from every non-fiction (and sometimes fiction) book I read, but I often don’t give myself time to digest the content. I read it, I tell myself the author is wise, I highlight the most interesting bits, and move on. Not this time.
My resolution is to spend time going through the many pages I highlighted, redoing the brain exercises and finally by the end of the month, moving on to the extra activities each reader gains with the purchase of the book. I’ll be revising in January. What will you be doing?
